_The Athy Men’s Shed opened its doors on Wednesday 11th Jan 2011 and welcomed approximately 20 men to the Shed.
They came from the Athy, Newbridge and Rathangan areas of Kildare and started about setting up the Shed. The usual cups of tea and leaning on a brush and solving the worlds problems were also available to those who wished to partake in such activities. Men of all ages and backgrounds are welcome and activities will vary from bike repairs to wood turning to upholstery or whatever project the men want to engage in. If you want to become part of the group, get more information about the shed or contribute to our wish list contact us by email |
_A Men’s Shed is a Community based group for men of all ages. We in Athy are at the early stages of setting up our group, we held our first meeting in Oct 2010 and had a good turn out from the area.
The formation of this web site came from one of those who attended the meeting and we need to encourage more men to get involved and get active within the group. No two sheds are the same however the objectives are similar in that they create a space for men to come and learn or share a skill, have a chat or just a cup of tea. Athy is a unique town, it has lots of unemployment but it also has lots of opportunities, it has a wealth of talented and skilled people and among its residents it has people who are looking to get involved in the community. Men’s Sheds provide that opportunity to become part of a group, to be valued and to contribute to your area. |
What is a Men’s Shed?
A Men's Shed is a dedicated, friendly and welcoming meeting place where men come together and undertake a variety of mutually agreed activities. Men’s Sheds are open to all men regardless of age, background or ability. It is a place where you can share your skills and knowledge with others, learn new skills and develop your old skills. New members are always welcome and can be assured that there is something of interest for everyone as the men have ownership of the projects and decide their own programme of events. |
