Emmett and Joey drop into Athy Community Men's Shed
What a lovely surprise to have Emmett and Joey drop into our shed . Originally from New Zealand , Emmett now living in Co. Kildare dropped into the shed this afternoon with his son Joey. Joey is on holidays from Scotland and has links with Westhill Men's Shed . Needless to say both men were given a cup of tea and a quick tour around our shed. Being from New Zealand where Men's Sheds are well established , the lad's fitted in very well. We are looking forward to Emmet dropping in again soon and showing him how to do a bit of wood turning If you would like to use Athy Community Men's Shed , or find out more about us drop in , we are open 6 days a week , Monday to Saturday 10:30 - 2pm , and Thursday nights 5pm to 8pm. Some of the guys who went on a night hike around Mount Leinster and the Blackstairs hills , to catch the full moon. We left the shed at about 7.40pm and arrived at The Nine Pins for about 8.30(ish). A slow amble and we were on top of Slevebawn ,stopped for some photos. A while later and we were on Tomduff Hill. We stopped here for a bit of lunch and to watch the moon rise over Mount Leinster. As we were munching on some sambo's we were surrounded by a group of wild horse's which live on the hill's there. Below us was a marquee with a wedding celebration going on. We contemplated saddling a few horse's and gate crashing the celebration's below us. Amazing to hear how far the music would carry on a still night. Then the conversation changed to stories of the Magnificent Seven on horse back. Shame there was eight of us. Derek, Tim, Clifford,Pat ,Tony , Sean Ger and Udo. From there we walked on towards the road , crossed it into the forest. There were one or two surprised looks from the car's in the forest car park as eight lads in day glow jackets with head torch;s walked through the car park. Doubt they were watching the full moon too, the windows were fairly missed up, Perhaps they have a view of another full moon. We got through the forest , with Mount Leinster on our right side, every now and then catching a glimpse of it through the tree's . As we got towards the end of the forest the sports tracker decided to turn itself off , we reckon it was because at this time it was just after midnight. Exiting the forest we had a fairly steep climb up to the private road that leads up to the the masts on top of Mount Leinster. We contemplated turning right and going up to the top of the mountain , as it was very early in the morning and a steep climb up the road , we opted for the easy route down hill to the cars. We got back to Athy at approx 1.20am A great night , good banter , good company , great views . Looking forward to the next hike .
