The ‘Fairdeal Scheme’ was devised in 2009 by then Minister for Health, Mary Harney. At that time a three year review was built into the scheme. This is the scheme where you pay 80% of your income towards Nursing home fees and the remainder, up to a maximum of 15% of your estate is recovered after you have passed away.
This review is currently underway and submissions are being invited.
It is very important that submissions are made now as the Scheme could be tweaked to our disadvantage, especially as the Property Market has collapsed.
DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND ABOUT THIS SCHEME?
Well, Engage-Kildare, the body co-ordinating opinion of older folk and older folk organisations towards making County Kildare a better place in which to grow old has organised a Forum meeting, and the main event will explain the ‘Fairdeal’ as it is, and how and to whom to make submissions.
Other items on the agenda will deal with Men’s Sheds which are popping up all over the County, the Changeover to Digital TV and on promoting Positive Mental Health in Older People.
WHERE IS THIS MEETING?
The meeting will take place in Clanard Court Hotel, Athy, Co. Kildare on Tuesday 26th June @ 2pm.
